Chris Sutton urges Chelsea boss Frank Lampard and his players to take responsibility for their abysmal performances

Chris Sutton criticised Frank Lampard and his players at Chelsea, claiming that the players and manager should share blame for the team’s dismal performances.

Since Lampard took over on a temporary basis after Graham Potter was fired, Chelsea have lost six straight games in all competitions. The loss in North London to Arsenal sees them sitting 12th in the league and six points off the top half.

The interim Chelsea manager has an opportunity to get a quick answer from his team when Chelsea plays Bournemouth on Saturday and Nottingham Forest on 13 May. However, given our performances of late, much needs to be done.

Chelsea then will play teams in the top-four standings, with the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, and Newcastle United before the season is done.

However, Chelsea’s poor performance has received criticism from pundits. Sutton has now openly criticised Lampard. (h/t Mirror), He wrote on the Daily Mail column:

“Chelsea are collecting only “L’s”—losses—uunder their caretaker manager, the latest coming in a pitiful 3-1 defeat at Arsenal. Passive’ was the word Lampard used in his post-match interviews. The players have to take responsibility for these pathetic performances, but so too does the manager for the identity crisis this has turned into.”

The way we are playing right now has gotten worse; we have no desire to win games, and our interim manager has no idea what to do. Just the feeling of going on the pitch to humiliate ourselves, we have forgotten the basics of football.

With only five games remaining, the least we can do is finish in the top half of the Premier League table. However, unless Lampard can stem the spiraling drop, we could be in for something much worse.

More Chelsea News:

Victories over teams like Bournemouth or Nottingham Forest are also far from certain and we cannot afford them to smell blood. The better we finish this season, the easier it will be to retain morale heading into the summer.
