Chelsea won’t stand in the way if Thiago Silva wants to leave the club

According to the Telegraph (free article), Chelsea won’t stand in the way of Thiago Silva if the Brazilian wants to leave the club after the end of this season.

Silva signed a new one-year deal in February, but has been linked with a move back to his former club in Brazil – Fluminense. He expressed his desire to finish his career there last year.

After a meek show against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final, the 38-year-old was critical of some of the decision-making by the new owners (Todd Boehly and co.).

The report suggests that the Fluminense president Mario Bittencourt and former Brazil striker Fred want the former Paris-Saint Germain and AC Milan defender to come back.

If Silva decides to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, it is unclear whether Chelsea would demand a fee for his sale, given he will have a year in his contract here.

The veteran has defied age and been the best Blues defender in the last three seasons. His availability has also been astonishing, given the amount of football this team has played in the last 24-30 months.

It is a good gesture from the club to not stand in the Brazilian’s way if he wants to go back to his roots. He has given everything for Chelsea and lifted the Champions League in 2021.

The other reason could be the return of Levi Colwill after his brilliant loan spell at Brighton and Hove Albion. The incoming boss Mauricio Pochettino may start with the Englishman at the back next season.

More Chelsea News:

Not just at Chelsea, Thiago Silva has had a massive influence in European football with his time at PSG, Milan and more. He is one of the greats of the game. Let’s hope he ends his career exactly the way he wants it to end.
