“Fans are demanding” Todd Boehly reaffirms his commitment to Chelsea

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly admits to learning much following Stamford Bridge takeover

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly claims that he understands the football market and comprehends the desire from fans to win. Roman Abramovich’s 19-year reign came to an end last year when the Clearlake Capital group won the bidding war to purchase the West London club for £4.25 billion.

Boehly has spent more than half a billion pounds on player acquisitions over the course of two transfer windows, but he has not yet seen any improvement in performances.

Chelsea have suffered in their first year under the new ownership. Despite the American billionaire’s massive expenditure and acquisition of some excellent players, the club currently sits 12th in the Premier League standings.

Frank Lampard, the club’s interim manager, continues to struggle as the process of finding a permanent manager is continuing. Chelsea are in contention to be relegated should all possible results go against them.

When questioned about the distinctions between basketball, baseball, (h/t Football.London) and football at the Milken Institute Global Conference, the owner of the Blues responded as follows:

“So, there’s a market for top players in every country in the world, and each one of those markets is different. You’ve got the Portuguese market, the French market, and the English market.”

“Then, of course, obviously, you have to build a team, and your coach is the conductor of the team, so I think there’s a lot that we’ve learned about the different markets. The global aspect of it all and, as you said, the fans are demanding.”

The football market is different; that’s true. You cannot pay outrageous sums of money to get a player who has performed well in other leagues. The manager should ratify the deal since he understands whether the player will fit in with his system, so owners shouldn’t make that decision.

Additionally, when spending excessive amounts of money on transfers, you must also adhere to the Financial Fair Play rule; this is very different, and hopefully, Boehly has now grasped how football transfers operate and in future, he will invest wisely.
