Christian Falk says Bundesliga club hope Chelsea make an offer for 31-year-old Liverpool target

Chelsea and Liverpool are interested in signing Bayern Munich’s Sadio Mane

Bayern Munich are hoping that Chelsea will join the race, with Liverpool also interested in re-signing Sadio Mane for the upcoming season.

After the Senegalese player’s disappointing campaign at Bayern Munich, where he started 17 Bundesliga games but failed to make an impact, Bayern Munich are now eager to sell the 31-year-old.

Following the first-leg loss to Manchester United in the Champions League quarterfinal, he also got into a fight with teammate Leroy Sane. He was later fined and given a match suspension before making his comeback. The 31-year-old attacker is a target for Liverpool, while Chelsea are also interested in him.

Christian Falk has since revealed to Caught Offside that Bayern wants to offload the 31-year-old after a fight with Sane and his failure to impress Thomas Tuchel, (h/t Express), as he said:

“I can tell you categorically that Bayern will not allow Coman to be sold, but the situation with Sadio Mane and Serge Gnabry is different. After his issue with Leroy Sane, Mane now has problems with his teammates, and furthermore, his level of performance has disappointed Thomas Tuchel.”

“Bayern are hoping for an offer from Chelsea—offers from Premier League clubs are welcome in Munich—but there are no seriously interested parties at this stage. Any potential interest from Newcastle doesn’t appeal to Mane either.”

Mane appears to be a decent option, and his experience in the Premier League makes him much better. But we have to make sure we free up some space in the squad, offloading the likes of Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and even Callum Hudson-Odoi – players who have struggled to make an impression here.

Four players operating from the same position would cause a great deal of chaos. Additionally, we would be wise to not give him a large sum of money; instead, we can negotiate a low asking price. After all, he is in his 30s and could be on the lookout for a new venture to rekindle what he thought would be the ideal ending to his prime years.

Meanwhile, it is hard to imagine where Liverpool will fit him in the team. Liverpool already have players like Darwin Nunez, Diego Jota, Cody Gakpo, and Mohammed Salah on the pitch. At Chelsea, Mane can also be utilised as a centre-forward – a position we have desperately struggled to consolidate for years.
