Kepa Arrizabalaga feels manager and player changes are the reason for Chelsea FC’s struggles this season

Chelsea shot-stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga feels that the multiple changes in managers and the several player additions to the squad have led to the Blues’ struggles this season.

The Stamford Bridge side parted ways with Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter in the current campaign before appointing Frank Lampard on an interim basis. Over the last two transfer windows, the West London club have also signed a number of players.

Speaking to the media via the Evening Standard, the Spain international is of the opinion that the uncertainty at Chelsea this season has cost the team.

“There have been three changes of coach, there have been changes in the squad during the season and it is costing us.”

The lack of planning at the Stamford Bridge side is down to the new owners. In the summer of 2022, they signed players and backed Tuchel. However, subsequently, they got rid of him.

Thereafter, Todd Boehly gave the go-ahead to give Graham Potter the reins of the Blues. In January, the Blues once again invested heavily in the squad.

The West London club signed the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Joao Felix, Mykhaylo Mudryk and Noni Madueke. However, we already had an abundance of forwards with Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech, Raheem Sterling, Christian Pulisic and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in our ranks.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion head coach had a tough task on his hand. In the end, the English gaffer’s appointment backfired and the 47-year-old was relieved of his duties as well.

Lampard’s arrival has not given us any sort of a new manager bounce. The club legend’s first two games in charge back in Chelsea’s dugout have seen us lose to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Real Madrid.

Kepa is right. The scattergun approach of the owners in terms of hiring managers and signing players has seemingly led to the squad becoming unstable. Hopefully, the Stamford Bridge side will take their time to get the right head coach and will appropriately shape the squad.
