“A disappointing game” Chelsea star reveals squad angst following latest Premier League setback

Conor Gallagher reveals players were angry after Chelsea lost to Wolves

Chelsea star Conor Gallagher offered his honest assessment of the 1-0 loss against Wolves. He thinks that there are still many areas for improvement after Matheus Nunes’s superb volley consigned the Blues to yet another defeat.

Frank Lampard’s second coming did not prove to be the difference maker as Chelsea once again struggled to find the end product. We are now closer to the relegation zone than the top four.

Lampard will be in charge through the rest of the season, as the Blues look to find a permanent manager. Hopefully, he can salvage something from a season that is a total write-off.

However, his first game in charge did not go as well as he had hoped. He will need to make some changes before they go to the Bernabeu to play Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Gallagher, who completed a full 90 minutes of play for the first time this season indicated that his squad is upset and cannot have many complaints. Speaking during the post-match press conference, (h/t Football.London) he said:

“We can’t have too many complaints. It was a disappointing game. We had confidence; we were up for it and excited for the game, but we’re disappointed and angry because we want it so bad. We want to win games for the club and for the fans. It’s just not clicking at the minute.”

That was undoubtedly a poor display, but we can’t criticise much about it at this point because it was Frank Lampard’s first game back in command. Surely it can only get better in the matches to come.

During N’Golo Kante’s absence, Gallagher was unable to contribute anything from the midfield, which undoubtedly indicates that his time may be over by next season.

There are many areas where this could be enhanced, and number nine is among them. As we have only scored six goals in our last six games, a striker is highly required. Presumably, Lampard has evaluated his performance and will make a few changes for the matchup with Real Madrid.
