Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is set to leave Chelsea as negotiations with Barcelona get underway

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is expected to depart Chelsea since talks with Barcelona are ongoing, (h/t Sport) and also the appointment of Frank Lampard won’t change his decision.

According to reports, Chelsea are in advanced talks with Barcelona to sell the striker during the summer transfer season. The Gabonese striker has struggled badly to gain a foothold since joining Chelsea from Barcelona and has hardly appeared in any games under boss Graham Potter.

The 33-year-old had a standout season at Barcelona last season, netting 13 goals for the Catalan giants in 24 outings across all competitions. He has been a pale shadow of that prolific self in Blue this time around.

With just one goal in 12 Premier League appearances, he was unable to maintain the same success at Chelsea. Barcelona have not made a bid for the 33-year-old and there is every reason to believe he will only play a limited role at Stamford Bridge in the remaining games this season.

Meanwhile, Robert Lewandowski has been the only serial goal-scorer for Barcelona this season, the club is currently searching for a backup. While Ousmane Dembele is sidelined and other strikers like Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres have struggled to find the back of the net, and Raphinha has made a decent contribution.

Aubameyang also expressed the same sentiments when he was seen celebrating with his Barcelona teammates after their 2-1 victory against Real Madrid.

But given that he hasn’t featured much this season and hasn’t had much of a real impact in front of goal, it now seems foolish to keep him.

Next season, it would be wiser to sell him because he has even expressed his intention of leaving and being photographed celebrating with Barcelona players.

Also, he is 33 years old and only has one to two more years to play at the highest level. As a result, keeping him would not be in our best interests; instead, we should choose an experienced striker in his mid-20s. But if Lampard wants to employ him through the rest of the campaign, that is acceptable since we can benefit from having him.
