28-year-old Chelsea star’s entourage meets Manchester City in London to discuss transfer

Chelsea star Mateo Kovacic’s entourage meets Manchester City in London to discuss transfer

In what will come as a surprise for Chelsea fans, Mateo Kovacic could supposedly be headed to Manchester City in the summer.

According to Croatian outlet TV N1 Zagreb (h/t Metro), the Croatia international’s entourage met Manchester City in London to discuss a potential transfer. His contract at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer of 2024.

It won’t be a surprise if Kovacic has become alienated from the club’s vision under Todd Boehly and co. We seem to be stockpiling young players aimlessly and the present looks very bleak for the club.

We are 11th in the table with no hope of making European football for next season. A relegation battle at this point in time will seem more plausible than a charge for a top-four finish.

Kovacic to Manchester City?

At the age of 28, Kovacic won’t have a lot of time left to spend at a club who are not guaranteed to participate in the UEFA Champions League in the near future. No team is, but a club like Manchester City are ever-present in the UCL in recent years.

To be fair, the 93-cap Croatia international has played in 33 games across competitions this season. His place in the starting XI shouldn’t be under threat right now. But Man City can offer the former Real Madrid man the chance to compete for huge titles again.

Kovacic has won the UEFA Champions League with us but that now seems like ages go. Pep Guardiola unfortunately likes the midfielder and tried to sign him in the past. That doesn’t bode well for us.

More Chelsea News:

Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva and Rodri have all been linked with a transfer to Barcelona in the summer. If even one of them leaves, Kovacic would be a smart replacement for them. Hopefully, Chelsea are able to tie Kovacic down to new terms soon. We can’t lose one of our more experienced players to a direct rival.
