Chelsea ‘not in the race’ for AS Monaco and France defender Axel Disasi

France international Axel Disasi, who plays for AS Monaco, is not being eyed by Chelsea for a transfer at the moment, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

The Blues are ‘not in the race’ to acquire the defender’s services ahead of the next transfer window. Nothing is concrete at this stage and the Stamford Bridge side have other priorities for now.

Next summer, there is a possibility that the 25-year-old will part ways with the Red and Whites after three seasons. A number of teams are eyeing the centre-back’s signature as a potential option in the coming months.

Disasi made his way to Monaco in the summer of 2020 from Stade Reims. Since then, the defender has been a key player in the Ligue 1 outfit’s starting lineup.

In the current campaign, the 25-year-old has once again been pivotal to the Red and Whites’ success. The French national has made 41 appearances in all competitions for Philippe Clement’s team, scoring six goals and providing four assists.

Apart from playing as a central defender, Disasi can also be deployed as a right-back, as he did for France in the 2022 World Cup. The 25-year-old has established himself in Didier Deschamps’ plans over the last few months.

At Chelsea, the backline has been bolstered over the last two transfer windows. In the summer of 2022, Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana made their way to the West London club.

The Blues also signed Benoit Badiashile in January. Marc Cucurella has also played as a centre-back on several occasions. The Stamford Bridge side also have the likes of Thiago Silva and Trevoh Chalobah at their disposal.

Therefore, Disasi is seemingly not the profile of player Chelsea need at the moment. The 25-year-old has shown a lot of promise at Monaco, but the Blues have enough talent at the back to cope as things stand.
