Borussia Dortmund eye 23-year-old Chelsea Cobham graduate worth £44.2m

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher on Borussia Dortmund transfer shortlist

Borussia Dortmund are eyeing a move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher in the upcoming transfer window, according to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg on Twitter (h/t Metro).

BVB have the England international on their shortlist ahead of next summer. However, for now, the Bundesliga giants have not held discussions with the Blues regarding a move.

The Stamford Bridge side are open to parting ways with the 23-year-old in order to trim the squad. To that end, the West London club will demand around £44.2 million for him.

Dortmund are set to lose Mahmoud Dahoud at the end of the season. The 27-year-old’s current contract is going to expire next summer and he is going to leave on a free transfer.

BVB also have one of the hottest prospects in European football, Jude Bellingham, in their ranks. The 19-year-old is attracting interest from several teams and could also be potentially sold.

Gallagher made his way through the youth ranks at Chelsea. The 23-year-old’s loan spells at West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace established him as a promising talent.

However, in the current campaign, the midfielder has been unable to secure a starting berth in the team at the Stamford Bridge side. He also faces a lot of competition at the West London club.

The Blues have an abundance of talent at their disposal. At the moment, Frank Lampard can call upon the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante, amongst others.

But Gallagher is Chelsea’s academy product. We have seen in the past the likes of Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori thriving after leaving the club. Therefore, it would be wise to keep the England international and try to get the best out of him at the Stamford Bridge side.
