Arsenal hold talks to sign Chelsea contract rebel chased by two other PL giants

Arsenal hold talks to sign Chelsea’s Mason Mount amid Liverpool and Manchester United interest

Arsenal have joined Manchester United and Liverpool in the race to sign exit-bound Chelsea star Mason Mount this summer.

This is according to a report from Goal (h/t Metro), who state that the Gunners have held talks over a potential deal for the 24-year-old. His contract expires at the end of next season.

Chelsea will know that this summer could be their last chance to properly cash in on him before they run the risk of losing him on a free transfer. Talks over a fresh deal have stalled.

It won’t be a surprise if Mount is feeling insecure about his prospects in the starting XI given Chelsea’s humongous spending under Todd Boehly, where they have brought in a plethora of youngsters. Chelsea will also know they have to sell some players to balance their books after such a splurge.

Mount certainly has talent. He can make it big here at Chelsea or whichever club he may choose to join. But if he doesn’t want to renew his deal at Stamford Bridge, there is very little we can do about it.

What should Chelsea do?

He can play as a No. 10, a central midfielder as well as out wide. His quality and versatility will certainly make him a weapon for a team like Arsenal, Manchester United or Liverpool. A coach like Mikel Arteta can certainly get the best out of him at the Emirates, which will be a sight that Chelsea fans will hate.

It will be directly strengthening a rival, so hopefully, Chelsea can attract foreign suitors to the table. If not, we can at least quote a handsome price for him so we are at least financially compensated for losing such a bright young player.

If we can get him to sign a new deal, then it would be an ideal situation. Mount seems to have potential that is yet to be uncovered. One can imagine that whoever Chelsea’s new manager is will also have his own opinion on the England international.

It will be interesting to see what approach the club takes, or if Mount’s stance regarding a new deal changes if the new coach has a place in his starting XI for him. He has started just once in our last nine Premier League games.
