At least 10 Chelsea players re-considering future after Real Madrid loss in UEFA Champions League

At least 10 players at Chelsea are said to be reconsidering their future at Stamford Bridge after back-to-back UEFA Champions League losses against Real Madrid.

The Blues lost both legs by a 2-0 margin (4-0 aggregate) to get dumped out of the competition and effectively end the season for them. This was their last chance of making the competition next season.

They are 11th in the table and 17 points behind fourth-placed Newcastle United, who have a game in hand. Winning the UEFA Champions League was, hence, the only way for the Blues to make the UCL next season.

With that opportunity gone, the Evening Standard claims that at least 10 Chelsea players are considering leaving SW6 this summer. The Blues could have to sell contract Mason Mount, whose deal expires next year.

However, they are reluctant to let go of Brighton & Hove Albion centre-back (on loan from Chelsea) Levi Colwill. They are also keen to keep N’Golo Kante and Kai Havertz at the club next season.,

Let them leave Chelsea

However, they could try to push out the likes of Conor Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Kalidou Koulibaly, Christian Pulisic, Edouard Mendy and Hakim Ziyech. None of these players, apart from perhaps Koulibaly, have seen much first-team action.

Even the Senegal international has massively failed to impress since his high-profile transfer from Napoli last summer. Auba and Ziyech are completely out of the picture when it comes to getting any meaningful minutes.

Gallagher, Loftus-Cheek and Mendy, meanwhile, just don’t seem to cut it when it comes to first-team quality. Pulisic has potential but it just doesn’t seem to work out for him.

Todd Boehly knows that the Blues will have to sell players to balance their books after spending a lot of money to bring in 18 players over the course of transfer windows. From the names above, honestly, the club would be wise to retain just Colwill.

Mount is also a brilliant player for a 24-year-old and can unfurl into a world-class playmaker but if he wants to leave, or if he doesn’t want a new deal here, then there isn’t much we can do. The other players honestly haven’t been up to the mark this season.

Kante is world-class on his day but his injuries have affected his consistency and form. Seeing any of them leave wouldn’t be the end of the world for this team. Instead, it will help us in trimming the squad and make space for world-class additions.
