William Gallas feels Chelsea FC’s extravagant transfer window splurges can only be redeemed by UEFA Champions League glory

Speaking to Genting Casino (h/t football.london), William Gallas believes Chelsea FC’s extravagant spending has been criticised by William Gallas, who claims that it will only be worthwhile if the team wins the UEFA Champions League in June.

The Blues have spent almost a similarly staggering £600 million on rebuilding the roster in only two transfer windows since Todd Boehly became the club’s new owner. The Blues have continued to perform poorly in the Premier League, where they currently sit in 10th place, 11 points outside of a Champions League spot.

But their Champions League run has been respectable, and on April 18 and 12, they will play Real Madrid in the quarterfinals. Gallas, a former Chelsea defender, isn’t convinced by Chelsea’s spending spree and believes they could have taken things more carefully and avoided buying all the players at once.

Gallas told Genting Casino that he doesn’t expect Chelsea to be able to qualify for next season’s Champions League (h/y Football. London), as he said:

“Twenty one million… What is Chelsea’s position? Tenth? Do you think they will qualify for the Champions League? I don’t.” Chelsea has spent a lot of money this season, but for what?

“It looks like the American owners want to change everything right away and they want to bring the American mentality, but it doesn’t work like this. You have to take things step by step and not try to do everything in one year.”

What Gallas stated is absolutely accurate; we should have taken precautions rather than buying players all at once, as this makes it difficult for the manager to assemble a solid starting lineup for matches, and give enough playing time to all the players.

But, because half of the Blues’ players were injured, they were left with little choice but to purchase players. Enzo Fernandez and Joao Felix have already made an impression, and we have also acquired outstanding players who will undoubtedly establish themselves.

Mykhaylo Mudryk and Noni Madueke, in the meantime, will quickly make themselves known. Several more will take the same route and see more action until the team is balanced out by Potter. Chelsea finishing in the top four is quite impossible, but hopefully, we advance further in the Champions League.
