“No imminent sign”- Journo gives boost to Chelsea in their pursuit of Crystal Palace star

Chelsea target Wilfried Zaha has declined several offers to stay longer at Crystal Palace

Wilfried Zaha’s contract at Crystal Palace expires this summer (Transfermarkt), and he might consider joining Arsenal or Chelsea. The 30-year-old doesn’t want to move out of England, as he has indicated that he will probably remain in London.

It is believed that in November, although not official, a written offer was made. Zaha was verbally given a new, lucrative contract to remain in southeast London.

His current weekly salary of £130,000 was increased as part of the agreement, making it the biggest-paying contract in team history. The 30-year-old winger from the Ivory Coast initially rejected numerous offers to sign a long-term contract to remain at Selhurst Park.

Should Chelsea buy Zaha in the summer window?

As Zaha’s contract expires in the summer, there is rising speculation that he will depart the team. The former Manchester United has been linked with a move to join AC Milan, among other teams.

Journalist Alex Crook offered his opinion to talkSPORT (h/t Daily Mail), regarding Zaha’s potential departure from Selhurst Park in the summer window. He said:

”It certainly seems that Wilf Zaha’s stellar career at Crystal Palace could be coming to an end. His contract is up at the end of the season; – no imminent sign that he is willing to extend. And if he is to go and achieve his ambition of playing for a top club, it’s now or never, really, isn’t it?”

Wilfried Zaha’s contract expires in the summer window.

Graham Potter would perhaps be under additional stress if we do sign him because the club currently possesses an excess of players and are already tasked with getting the best out of the expensive youngsters they’ve bought.

Also, he is 30 years old, and Todd Boehly’s age policy states that he does not want players at that age. He is versatile and has a lot of experience playing in the Premier League which makes him a very good addition to many teams.

But we can’t keep signing players just for the sake of it. Signing him would make more sense if one of our current attacking options depart the club in the summer. If not, then it would be smarter to first Romelu Lukaku’s future and then invest in a younger goal-getting striker.
