Stan Collymore believes Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane should join Chelsea in the summer

Stan Collymore believes Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane joining Chelsea would be a wise option since that would see him stay put in London.

Kane continues to be linked with an exit ahead of the summer transfer window. The 29-year-old is coveted by Chelsea and Manchester United as the duo continue to rebuild.

The England skipper has 18 months left on his contract (Transfermarkt), and Tottenham are yet to win a major trophy. He could consider fighting for a summer move in hopes of collecting some trophies before he retires from football.

Collymore, a former Liverpool striker, thinks Chelsea could have an advantage in luring Kane away from Spurs. A lot, has to do with location.

Collymore explained how the Spurs superstar joining Chelsea will be beneficial for his family as well, in his column to CaughtOffside (h/t Express).

“If I were Kane, I would do everything in my power to get a move to Manchester United, but that’s me speaking as an older former pro, and the fact Chelsea are based in London will probably play a big part as Kane’s family life may mean he doesn’t want to relocate too far away from where he has been for the majority of his playing career,”

Kane could join Chelsea in the summer window.

If he wants to join Manchester United, there won’t be much of an issue for him because players frequently switch nations to sign with other league clubs. But it could take him out of his comfort zone and put him in a new city, adding another challenge to be met.

But ultimately, it will depend on Kane. United has been great this year and look likely to compete in next season’s Champions League. They have also become a solid team under Erick Ten Hag, potentially giving United an upper hand over Chelsea in terms of immediately competing for trophies.

It doesn’t change the fact that we have been better than United in previous years, having won two Champions League titles in the last nine years (2011–12 and 2020–21) and are one away from matching their total. But there is still work to be done under Graham Potter and Kane will make the Englishman’s task easier.

It is debatable if Tottenham will want to sell to a direct rival, let alone one from London. Either way, landing Kane will not be cheap and will rely on Todd Boehly opining up his chequebook once again.
