Journo says Chelsea could make big profit if they sell 23-year-old homegrown player

Simon Philips believes Chelsea could make a significant signing by selling Trevoh Chalobah

Journalist Simon Philips thinks Chelsea could earn a significant amount from the sale of Trevoh Chalobah this summer.

With the signing of numerous young players this season, the Blues have done tremendous business, and head coach Graham Potter will have to restock his team in the months to come.

Chelsea will have to let go of marginal players in order to make room for new additions and balance salaries if they wish to attract players and Philips has identified a Chelsea player who, if sold, could help the Blues rake in some money into the coffers.

Given that they came up through the West Londoners’ youth system, Chelsea are debating whether to offload any homegrown players during the summer in order to secure guaranteed profit. And Many Serie A clubs are supposedly interested in purchasing Chalobah.

Inter Milan and Roma may be competing for the Chelsea academy product, who is worth £18 million. Yet because Chalobah’s £50,000 per week deal is not due to expire until the summer of 2028 (Transfermarkt), the Blues are in a good position to negotiate.

But according to journalist Philips, who was speaking to GiveMeSports, Chelsea should sell the 23-year-old since doing so would enable them to raise a sizable sum of money.

“Chelsea would like the fact that, of course, he’s from the academy, so they can make a good profit on him. He is adored by the fans and has become something of a cult hero since he came on and scored that screamer for Chelsea in his first season.”

Chalobah has not played a lot this season; he has only played 14 games in the Premier League. It indicates that under the former Swansea City boss, he was limited to 10 Premier League games. Meanwhile, he has played in 20 Premier League games under Thomas Tuchel, getting his fair share of playing time.

The 23-year-old faces more competition at the back now that Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, and Kalidou Koulibaly have been signed by the club.

But then again, we will have to think about the future Thiago Silva is clearly at the dusk of his playing days while Koulibaly is into his 30s as well. Chalobah could be honed into a quality first-team centre-back but if the club believe he can’t be improved any further, it won’t be the worst call to cash in on him and then invest our time in someone like Levi Colwill.
