Real Madrid are considering a move for loaned-out Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku

According to Fichajes (h/t Daily Mail), European champions Real Madrid are considering a shock move for loaned-out Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku, who was signed by Chelsea for £97.5m from Inter Milan in the summer of 2021, went back to Inter on a season-long loan for the 2022/23 campaign after an underwhelming season at Stamford Bridge.

Things have not been smooth for the Belgian international at Italy this time around, with only five goals in 18 appearances in all competitions. Injuries and a horrible World Cup haven’t helped his cause.

But, we all know that at his best, Lukaku is one of the best centre-forwards around. Upon his return to Chelsea after the loan spell, there isn’t much planned for him under Graham Potter.

Keeping that in mind and appreciating the quality he possesses, Real Madrid could consider signing him in the summer. Their sole striker Karim Benzema is not getting any younger at the age of 35, hence they need to sign another number nine to support the Frenchman and be his replacement in the longer run.

If we forget the consistency and big-game mentality Benzema has, Lukaku has some similarities to his game with the France international. The latter is good at holding the ball up and playing with fast wingers around him. He is a great penalty box striker but can be an assist-maker, just like King Karim.

So, if Madrid are confident of getting the best out of him, the 29-year-old will give them his best. There is a lot of potential for this move to work out.

More Chelsea News:

Let’s hope for the player’s sake that he is transferred to a club on a permanent deal. There is no point loaning him out once again in the summer. It is time Chelsea accept that they won’t get back the money they spent to sign him in the first place.
