Speaking on the House of Champions Podcast (h/t Metro), transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirms that Chelsea and Arsenal are among the clubs interested in signing Valencia and USMNT midfielder Yunus Musah.
Along with the London giants, Serie A heavyweights Inter Milan are also in the race for Musah, who is currently valued at around £22m.
It is well understood that both Chelsea and Arsenal would be in the summer market for a midfielder. Despite spending a record fee to get Enzo Fernandez, the Blues sold Jorginho to the Gunners. The future of Mateo Kovacic is up in the air with Manchester City interested in signing the Croatia international.
Here’s what Romano said regarding the interest from the clubs in Musah (h/t Metro):
“I think whatever happens with Valencia I see him leaving in the summer.
“In the Premier League there is strong interest. During the World Cup, Chelsea were following the player. Arsenal, of course, know the player very well he was there so he is a player they are monitoring.
“Also Inter, they are looking for that kind of player, so Musah is a player they are following. My expectation is for him to leave and from what I understand, Chelsea, Arsenal and Inter are the most interested clubs, but it will take time.”
Musah is a bright young player who has had a good season for Valencia. He also had an excellent World Cup for the US Men’s National Team. His performances in Qatar would have lured some interest too.
The 20-year-old knows English football to an extent when he spent a year with the Arsenal youth side before moving to Spain in the summer of 2019.
The midfielder has played 24 games in all competitions this season, assisting two goals. He is a versatile player who can operate as a box-to-box midfielder, a number 10 or a winger. He possesses excellent ball-carrying ability, along with a good passing range and a high work rate off the ball.
At the price quoted by Romano, signing him would be a shrewd business by any club in the summer. We hope that Chelsea are in the case because Musah is a quality player whose ceiling is higher than many midfielders in Europe.
It might be tough to attract him without any Champions League potentially, hence they would have to push forward with the deal rather than play the waiting game and make this transfer into an auction race.
