Chelsea target yet to extend his contract with PL rival

Chelsea new target David Raya is yet to renew his contract with Brentford

David Raya has decided against renewing his contract with Brentford as Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur are vying for his services.

Despite being content with his current situation, Raya turned down a new offer from the Bees and will now decide his future. The player could be up for the grabs this summer, as Tottenham, Manchester United, and Chelsea might engage in a competition for his services.

Two contract extensions have been offered to the 27-year-old Spanish goalkeeper, but he has turned them both down, saying his future can wait. Raya, who has one year left on his Bees contract, has a laid-back appearance as he concentrates on the current season and aims to help Brentford finish as high up the table as possible. Speaking to the PA news agency (h/t Mirror.UK), the goalkeeper said he would think about extending his contract with Brentford.

“I’m really, really happy, and right now I’m just thinking about doing the best for the team and trying to push for Europe.”

“I was offered a new contract last year and one in January, but we didn’t reach an agreement. I would like to see what happens in summer, however I’m happy at Brentford.”

“For now, a new contract is secondary; the most important thing is the team and the games.” We’ll see where we are in May.”

Since Brentford was promoted to the English Premier League in 2021, the 27-year-old has participated in 47 Premier League games. Unlike Kepa Arrizabalaga or Edouard Mendy at Chelsea, Raya is the undisputed number one at Brentford. Bringing in a new shot-stopper who can don the number one jersey should make Graham Potter’s life easier.

Graham Potter likes goalkeepers who can play the ball, and Raya seems to fit that description. However, since Raya wants to play in Europe and our chances of securing a place there next season seem slim, the final decision will likely go to the goalkeeper.
