Chelsea close in on a deal to sign Ecuadorian wonderkid Kendry Paez

According to a tweet from Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are close to agreeing on a deal to sign Ecuadorian wonderkid Kendry Paez from Independente del Valle.

The verbal agreement is very close to being reached before a deal is sanctioned. The Ecuador U-17 international is currently only 15, hence he can only join Chelsea after he turns 18, which is on May 4, 2025.

Paez is one of the best young midfielders in the South American game. He was linked with several top Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United. It seems as if the Blues have trumped their rivals to sign the player.

Since Todd Boehly took over the ownership from Roman Abramovich last summer, Chelsea have not hesitated in spending money to buy the top young talents. They signed multiple young players in the last two transfer windows to build a strong core for the future.

If you go through the list – Carney Chukwuemeka, Andrey Santos, David Datro Fofana, Omari Hutchinson and co. are some of the names brought in by the Blues under the Boehly regime. They all won’t be ready now but have the talent to come good in years to come.

Paez is one such talent. The 15-year-old is a light-footed central midfielder who can operate as a number 10. He has an excellent balance on the ball, can dribble past people at ease and is able to dictate games in possession. He is a bit lightweight, which is normal for such a young player.

More Chelsea News:

The South American market is the one to target for getting the best young players. In Paez, Chelsea are close to getting a midfield gem for the decade to come. Let’s hope this deal gets closed out soon.
