Former Liverpool midfielder thinks Joao Felix is better than three Chelsea attackers

Speaking on Talksport Radio (h/t Metro), Football pundit and former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy claims that new Chelsea signing Joao Felix is better than three Blues attackers.

Chelsea today announced the signature of the Portugal international, on loan from Atletico Madrid for the rest of this season. They paid around £9.68m loan fee to get the deal over the line. There is no option to buy in the summer.

Blues boss Graham Potter talked about Felix being a good addition to the team and helping them for the remainder of this campaign.

Murphy was glowing with his assessment of the 24-year-old, claiming he is better than Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic and Kai Havertz. Here’s what the pundit exactly said (h/t Metro):

“If you take away the money side of it for a minute, the way I look at it is, I would have Joao Felix over Hakim Ziyech, I would have him over Christian Pulisic and I would have him over Kai Havertz.

“Felix and Havertz are quite similar so maybe that one would be a debate. But Felix will improve their options in the wide areas. He will keep the ball, go past players, he’s got beautiful technique, he’s strong, he’s got magical talent.”

Seems like Murphy is a big fan of the Portugal international, and who would argue with that? Although his time in Madrid hasn’t been smooth, Felix has shown in the preceding World Cup and previously for Benfica that he is a star in the making.

Whether he is better than the current Chelsea trio, the jury is still out. Now that they are in the same team, we don’t have to wait long to find out.

Not only in the goal-scoring department, but Chelsea have also lacked quality in the creative area too. It is not as if the strikers are missing multiple big chances every game, is it? Statistically, the Blues have scored only 20 goals from 17 league games, and are missing only 0.9 big chances per game (Sofascore).

More Chelsea News:

So, the arrival of Felix can elevate the creative parameters of this side. The Portuguese star is good in half-spaces, can take defenders on and create chances, is good in finishing off chances and works hard off the ball (practising the latter would have happened a lot under Diego Simeone at Atleti).
