Transfer News: Sevilla show interest in Chelsea’s French defensive ace

Sevilla are interested in signing Chelsea defender Malang Sarr

According to Daily Mail, Spanish side Sevilla are interested in signing Chelsea defender Malang Sarr, provided he cuts his loan deal short at AS Monaco.

Sarr joined Monaco on loan for the entirety of this season, but things have not gone to plan there. He has only made nine league appearances, with just four from the start.

The young Frenchman could well be on his way from Ligue 1 in search of more game time. Sevilla have a wide interest in him.

Ever since signing for Chelsea in the summer of 2020, the 23-year-old went on loan to Porto for the 2020/21 season. He was part of the Blues senior side last though, making 22 appearances in all competitions.

Sarr is a promising young defender who can operate both as a centre-back and a left-back. It does feel as though he won’t get much game time at Chelsea.

Hence, it would make sense if the Blues recall him back from Monaco and strike a deal with Sevilla to make the sale. Moreover, having signed Benoit Badiashile this month and keeping a place open for the return of Levi Colwill, there seems to be no place for the 23-year-old.

What the player sale would do is open some funds for future businesses that need to be done. We know Chelsea are looking to sign a midfielder, either now or in the summer. They are in the race for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.

So, looking at it from the viewpoint of all parties, the sale of Sarr to Sevilla makes sense. We would wish the young defender all the best for what is to come for him. A bit unfortunate that he wasn’t given enough game time to showcase his quality here.
