According to the Evening Standard, Newcastle United have launched a huge bid to sign Chelsea target and Borussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko in the summer.
The German international, whose contract with Dortmund expires at the end of this season (Transfermarkt), has been linked with Chelsea and Barcelona alongside Newcastle. He was part of the national team squad that bowed out of the World Cup in the group stage.
The report also updates us on the fact that the 18-year-old is not close to signing a new deal with the Bundesliga side as they are struggling to reach his wage demands.
Moukoko is said to have had discussions over a deal worth around £150,000-per-week on a free transfer in the summer. As of now, the Magpies are well-placed to beat Chelsea and Barcelona for this deal.
Chelsea are in the market to sign a striker. They brought young striker David Datro Fofana from Molde early this month, but are contemplating a decision to loan him out for the rest of this season. Joao Felix is coming too, but he is not a number nine by trade.
The Blues are also linked with Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram, whose contract, similar to Moukoko, expires in the summer (Transfermarkt). There have been reports suggesting that the club would want to strike a deal for the Frenchman on a cut-price deal now, rather than wait till the summer.
If they are successful in signing Thuram, then the possibility of missing out on Moukoko won’t hurt much. As talented as the latter is, the former is more experienced, has had a recent taste of playing the biggest game ever (the World Cup final) and doing well.
Right now, Chelsea have to be smart in the market if they are to build a team up. Let’s hope we are that this month and in the summer.
