Di Marzio: 25-year-old France international now wants to join Chelsea

Marcus Thuram expresses interest in joining Chelsea from Borussia Monchengladbach

Marcus Thuram now wants to join Chelsea in the January transfer window and is aiming to leave Borussia Monchengladbach.

Despite competition from other teams, Gianluca Di Marzio believes (h/t Merto.UK), he would now prefer to join Chelsea if the right offer arrives, despite earlier claims that he wouldn’t want to make the switch.

The 25-year-old is unwilling to stay with Bundesliga powerhouse Borussia Monchengladbach, and this could be a great opportunity to pounce on the move as the player’s contract also expires this summer (Transfermarkt).

The team currently needs a striker, therefore they could fight for the deal and this gives the club two options if he doesn’t renew his contract: either buy him for free this summer or spend money in January.

With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s signing failing to make an impact up front, the West Londoners are looking to strengthen their forward line. Thuram, who has 10 goals in 15 Bundesliga games, could be a great asset.

The Blues have undoubtedly lacked aggression in the offensive third and have only scored four goals in their last five games, which has underlined how poor their front line has been.

Signing Joao Felix did offer a little in the Fulham game as the player managed to lay a marker in the contest and hinted at what Chelsea were missing in their attacking line, but his presence only lasted until the 58th minute as the player was shown a straight red card for his bad tackle.

In their 1-2 defeat to Fulham, there was still a lack of conversion, and the signing of the striker is important, as it looks like Graham Potter doesn’t have confidence in Aubameyang while Armando Broja is out for the season with an ACL injury.

However, there are always benefits and drawbacks given the stark differences between the Bundesliga and the Premier League.

Thuram’s signing would, in our opinion, could enhance the attacking line as he is certainly an aggressive striker and will certainly look to make a statement in the Premier League. But if the 25-year-old falls short of his expectations, it will be added to the list of other wasteful purchases.

However, the 25-year-old’s season in the Bundesliga has been outstanding. He is a player worth taking a punt on and we can’t let our past failures scare us from taking calculated risks in the future.
