Chelsea ‘out of the race’ for Borussia Dortmund forward Youssoufa Moukoko after contract breakthrough

Chelsea are ‘out of the race’ for Youssoufa Moukoko for now after the forward’s contract breakthrough with Borussia Dortmund, according to the Daily Mail via Sky Sport reporter Florian Plettenberg on Twitter.

The 18-year-old’s current contract with the Bundesliga giants expires at the end of the season (transfermarkt). However, the youngster has now held positive talks with the German about extending his stay.

Moukoko has held positive talks with BVB over committing to an extension until the summer of 2027. While nothing has been agreed upon as of yet, the Blues have cooled their interest and are now not pursuing the Germany international’s signature.

The 18-year-old is one of the biggest prospects to come out of Dortmund’s academy. He has had a breakout season in the current campaign after coming up through the youth ranks at BVB.

This term, the forward has made 22 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga giants. He has scored six goals and provided six assists.

Moukoko’s form also saw him make his way into Hansi Flick’s plans. The youngster played a part for Germany in Qatar. However, Die Mannschaft could not get past the group stages of the 2022 World Cup.

Chelsea have struggled to find the back of the net this season. Raheem Sterling is currently our leading goalscorer, with six goals in all competitions in the current campaign.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s signing has been uninspiring. After rating ways with Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner in the summer of 2022, we evidently need a quality number nine. Unfortunately, the Gabonese has not lived up to expectations.

Therefore, a striker seems to be a priority for us. Moukoko has shown a glimpse of his talent in the current campaign. However, instead of going after a prospect, it would be wise for the Blues to pursue an established forward.

A new contract at Dortmund also makes sense for the 18-year-old, considering BVB’s track record in creating superstars over the years.
