According to The Athletic, Chelsea have learnt how much they will need to pay as a loan package to try and sign talented Portuguese forward Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid.
Felix has been linked heavily with an exit from the Spanish club with a number of Premier League clubs said to be interested in him. Atletico are apparently willing to let him leave on a loan transfer.
It has now emerged that the superagent Jorge Mendes who handles Felix has approached a number of English clubs to figure out if his client could be loaned out to one of the Premier League clubs.
It is being claimed right now that the package to sign Joao Felix would cost around €21million for the rest of the season which will include the loan fee to Atletico Madrid and also his wages.
It’s a rather high fee to sign a player on a temporary basis unless there is an agreement to sign him permanently in the summer and it remains to be seen if some club is willing to spend that amount.
Felix’s time at Atletico has been rather forgetful. He has struggled to show his quality in Diego Simeone’s system and this has resulted in an eventual fallout with the Argentinian manager.
Simeone has benched the talented Portuguese star many times this season and has not really given him a chance to sign. However, he did start in the most recent game in La Liga.
Regardless, it looks like for his own good, a move away from Atletico Madrid is what Felix needs. Chelsea is an option but a player of his talent will definitely not be short of suitors.
Chelsea have players like Kai Havertz who are similar to Felix and paying this rather outlandish fee to sign the Portuguese forward on loan doesn’t seem to make sense. Let’s see if the management thinks otherwise.
