Chelsea join Real Madrid in the race for Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic

Chelsea and Real Madrid interested in acquiring Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic

Marcelo Brozovic has just entered Chelsea’s list of defensive midfield purchases as they attempt to fortify their squad.

The news follows a report from Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Real Champs) that Chelsea are considering signing the Croatian if Moises Caicedo’s bid is unsuccessful.

However, a number of clubs are interested in buying the player, including Barcelona, Juventus, and Real Madrid. And now, Chelsea have also entered the race.

The 30-year-old has been a crucial component of Inter Milan, but due to recent fitness issues, the Italian powerhouses are thinking about trading the star. Additionally, Inter have remained a strong team in his absence, so the club are not likely to suffer if they sell him.

It won’t be simple, though, as several clubs want to purchase him, and Chelsea have themselves not shown a proclivity towards signing players in their 30s under Todd Boehly- apart from a few exceptions.

The defensive midfielder has played over 302 times for Inter Milan since joining the team, contributing 30 goals and 37 assists. Those who have seen him play know all about his qualities on both ends of the pitch.

Brozovic might be the perfect defensive midfielder for Chelsea given that he has been a reliable player for Inter and has played in 10 games for the Nerazzurri this season.

Chelsea’s midfield has struggled, which has impacted their results on the pitch and left them outplayed in the centre of the field on several occasions.

Although the club wouldn’t immediately benefit from the 30-year-old addition, but hopefully he will be able to link the game with players and aid in the distribution of the ball across the pitch.

Many would also argue that he is too old. However, Casemiro, who is also 30 years old, is having a standout season after his £70 million move to Manchester United. The former Real Madrid star was questioned about his ability to perform in the Premier League.

The idea is to keep faith in the player and give him time to get comfortable in the league. However, it’s still doubtful if we’ll be able to sign him.
