Speaking in the press conference (h/t Football.London), Chelsea boss Graham Potter has offered team news, including updates on Christian Pulisic and Raheem Sterling, ahead of the game against Fulham.
Pulisic and Sterling picked up their injuries in the league game against Manchester City last Thursday. The former hurt himself after going in a challenge with John Stones, while the latter pulled up his hamstring.
Striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed the FA Cup tie against City on Sunday due to a minor strain. Potter offers updates on him and more.
Here’s what he said (h/t Football.London):
“Pierre is fine and he’ll be in the squad for the game. Christian is a couple of months we think, hopefully, less, but that’s the timeframe. Raheem less but we’re still evaluating the extent of it. Hopefully less than that, though.
“They’re making progress. Ruben [Loftus-Cheek] is getting closer, Ben [Chilwell] is getting closer. Reece [James] was out on the grass today, not training with the team but on his own. N’Golo did his first couple of days out training on his own but there is still a long, long way to go. But it felt more positive. To see the guys out there, it gives everyone a lift.”
Good to know that Aubameyang is fit and available for the game, although his form has not been fruitful for the team. It is a big blow to see Pulisic out for a couple of months.
We cannot wait to have both of our star fullbacks – Reece James and Ben Chilwell back into the team. The duo has been missed for their creativity and constant running in wide areas.
It would be an understatement to say that the game against Fulham is a must-win. Chelsea are currently 10th in the table, a long way away from the top four spots in the league.
Hence, irrespective of the injury issues in the squad, Potter needs to find a way to put together a team that can deliver a result at Craven Cottage. It won’t be easy though because Fulham have been great this season. Even though they will miss star Aleksandr Mitrovic due to suspension, they are good enough to give Chelsea a game.
Evening Standard has reported that new Chelsea signing Joao Felix will be eligible to play in this London derby on Thursday, which would be welcome news for the team.
