According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport (h/t Express), Manchester United plan to make a serious attempt to sign Juventus striker and Chelsea target Dusan Vlahovic in the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the Turin-based club amid trouble in the clubs hierarchy and their financial turmoil. The Serbian international joined the Old Lady in January this year for £62 million from Florentina.
He has interest from several clubs including the Blues, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain. But it seems another interested party in United is now preparing to make a serious offer for him next month.
Erik ten Hag needs to add a striker to his squad after the club terminated Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have played as strikers at the time, but the club does not have any reliable natural strikers in their squad.
Graham Potter also faces a similar problem. With youngster Armando Broja set to miss out the rest of the season after picking up an ACL injury, the Blues are left with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the only natural striker in their squad.
The former Arsenal man who joined us this summer from Barcelona has struggled for goals this season. The 33-year-old has made 12 appearances in all competitions, scoring only two goals in the process. Also, given his age, he cannot be considered a long-term solution.
Vlahovic makes a very sensible target in this case. The Serbian has made 15 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring seven goals in the process. The 22-year-old has been a constant threat in the opposition box and has been one of the best players for the Old Lady so far this season.
However, the striker sees his current contract in 2026 (transfermarkt), giving Juventus an upper hand in the negotiations. Given the money the club spent on bringing him in, they would like to recoup as much as possible should make any side make a serious enquiry.
It will be wise for the Blues to up their interest in the young striker. United are our rivals for a top-four finish this season and we cannot allow them to strengthen themselves for the second half of the season. It remains to be seen if the Blues make any move for the 22-year-old next month.
