Reliable journo confirms Chelsea blockbuster signing for the 2023 summer transfer window

Transfer News: Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea have signed RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Chelsea have signed RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku. The Frenchman will join the club next summer but has signed all his documents and contracts.

Chelsea have been long linked with the 25-year-old. There were prior reports that the player had agreed to personal terms with the west London club, but now it seems that the transfer is done and sealed.

An official statement is yet to be put out by either of the clubs, but it looks like it will only be a matter of time now. It is surprising to see the Blues not push for a move in January instead though.

The Blues have struggled so far this season in the league and Graham Potter could have done with an in-form player like the 25-year-old in his squad for the second half of the season.

Nkunku has scored 17 times in 23 appearances for the Leipzig club in all competitions. He was also named in the France squad for the World Cup but tore a knee ligament in training which ruled him out of the tournament.

Potter will hope that the Frenchman continues his form once he returns after recovering from his injury. The Blues will be without Armando Broja for the rest of the season who picked up an injury last week and now requires surgery.

While it looks like the club will now most likely target other players next month, Potter has likely signed his player since taking charge of the club back in September. A forward capable of playing as a striker and even dropping deeper as a playmaker. Such versatility makes him a threat to reckon with.
