Saudi club Al-Nassr are interested in signing Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante

According to Get French Football News (h/t Mirror), Saudi Arabia club Al-Nassr are interested in signing Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante, who will be a free agent in the summer.

It has been widely reported that the same club are close to signing superstar Cristiano Ronaldo for free after the Portuguese forward terminated his contract with Manchester United.

Kante’s contract expires at Stamford Bridge at the end of this season (Transfermarkt). There hasn’t been any news of him agreeing on a new deal. In fact, the Frenchman has been linked with a move to Barcelona for free, with the pre-contract agreement signed in January.

If Al-Nassr manage to get both Kante and Ronaldo in a space of a few months, it would be good for their popularity and the extension of the Saudi game on the world platform after an impressive showing in the World Cup.

For Kante though, things have not been good injury-wise in the last 18 months. He has missed a host of games, including almost the whole of this season so far. The recurring injury issues derailed his chances of probably playing the World Cup for the last time in his career (since he is 31 now).

As much as he is going through a rough patch, the former Leicester City midfielder still has a lot to give to any team he plays beyond this season. Can he be a great addition to Barcelona? Possibly so because the La Liga giants are crying out for a mobile player and destroyer in their midfield.

For Al-Nassr, signing Kante would be a great move. But the latter may see this as a massive drop-off from where he is at right now. That isn’t up for debate.

So, if he is determined to leave Chelsea for free, Barcelona could be a better option considering the Catalan giants’ status in world football and Sergio Busquets’ ageing body.
