“He will have many offers”- Bundesliga club boss resigned to losing 25-year-old Chelsea target

Monchengladbach boss resigned to losing Chelsea target Marcus Thuram if offers come

Speaking to Radio Sportiva (h/t Football.London), Borussia Monchengladbach manager Oliver Neuville is resigned to losing Chelsea target and French forward Marcus Thuram if offers arrive.

Aside from Chelsea, Premier League rivals Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are also in the race to sign the 25-year-old.

Marcus Thuram, son of the French legend Lillian, has been at the FC Sochaux Academy before moving to Guingamp and eventually changing countries to move to Germany in 2019.

Here’s what the Monchengladbach boss said about the player’s future (h/t Football.London):

“Marcus is having an amazing season with lots of goals. He has a contract until the end of the season and I think it will be difficult for him to stay at Borussia Monchengladbach.

“Obviously I hope so, but we have to be realistic: if he continues like this he will have many offers especially from England and Spain and if he continues like this there is little hope he will stay.”

As mentioned by Neuville, Thuram’s contract expires at the end of this season (Transfermarkt). As per the rules, he can start talking to foreign clubs from January 1 onwards and agree to a pre-contract agreement ahead of the move next summer.

The French international, who is currently part of the World Cup squad in Qatar, has been one of the star players in the Monchengladbach team.

He scored 13 goals and assisted four in 17 appearances in all competitions during the first half of this season. For a team that is eighth in the Bundesliga, he does well to lead their attack game after game.

Thuram is a centre-forward by trade but can play in any position across the forward line. After last season’s dip in form, where he only scored three goals in 23 appearances with injuries not helping, he has been great this time around.

Chelsea do lack a forward who can score goals and an agile presence in and around the box. Seeing Thuram’s contract situation and his recent performances, he could be a great addition to the team from a financial and qualitative viewpoint.
