Manchester United are leading the race to sign Chelsea and Morocco winger Hakim Ziyech

According to Calciomercato (h/t Football.London), Manchester United are interested and leading the race to sign out-of-favour Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech.

The 29-year-old has been linked with Serie A champions AC Milan for the last few weeks, with recent reports suggesting that they are readying a bid to sign him in January on loan with an option to buy in the summer.

Ziyech, who has been on the fringes at Chelsea since arriving from Ajax in 2020, has had an excellent World Cup so far helping Morocco to their first-ever quarter-final appearance.

Just before the World Cup, the winger talked about having the determination to do well in Qatar in order to convince Milan to pull the trigger to sign him. He’s done that and some more.

It seems as if United have joined the race and would have a say on the player’s future. The Red Devils have been linked with another Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic, as they are worried by the lack of form shown by Jadon Sancho since arriving at Old Trafford last year.

Ziyech has shown his quality during the World Cup. But for some reason, he has struggled to get regular game time under either of the managers at Chelsea in the last two years.

United legend Roy Keane mentioned that the 29-year-old looks like a different player in this tournament compared to what we see of him at a club level. At times, players rise to big occasions when the stakes and responsibilities are high. Ziyech is showing that he relishes the big pressure games.

It would be a shame for us to lose him in January, or even in the summer. He is the type of player who could bring something different to the team in terms of creativity and goal-scoring in the final third. We have lacked both of that during the first half of this season.
