Club News: Jorginho has opened up about his Chelsea future amid links to La Liga side Barcelona

Italian midfielder Jorginho has opened up about his future at Chelsea and has said that he is keen to extend his contract with the west London club. The 31-year-old sees his current contract expire next summer with Barcelona among the club interested in him.

The Blues are open to extending the Italian’s stay at Stamford Bridge with the player also reciprocating a positive attitude about the same. Speaking to talkSPORT (h/t Evening Standard), the Italian gave a hint about his future.

“I love Chelsea. But this is a thing I’m not going to think about now. I need to think about winning games. Otherwise it’s a problem. I’ll focus game by game and then we’ll see what’s going to happen. But my mind is on Chelsea now and trying to win as many games as possible.”

Jorginho has been a regular for the Blues ever since he made the switch in the summer of 2018 from Serie A side SSC Napoli. The 31-year-old has won a host of trophies since then which includes the Champions League, Europa League, Super Cup and Club World Cup.

The midfielder has been ever present for us in the middle of the park and is also famous for his calmness before taking a penalty. The Italian has made 207 appearances in all competitions to date, scoring 29 goals in the process.

He has been crucial for us this season too, featuring in 19 games in all competitions. The former Napoli man has over the years formed a formidable partnership with French midfielder N’Golo Kante in the middle of the park, although the latter has suffered to keep himself fit for most of the part this season.

It will make sense for the Blues to offer a new contract to the Italian midfielder. While he is past his prime, he is still effective for us and has delivered whenever required. A short offer would make sense considering his age, while at the same time the west London club could scout the market for a potential long-term replacement.
