Chelsea learn raised loan price for Portuguese forward Joao Felix

According to CBS’s Ben Jacobs (h/t Football. London), Chelsea have learnt the increased price that Atletico Madrid are demanding to send Joao Felix out on loan in January.

Felix’s does not seem to have a future in an Atletico shirt and it looks like his time in the Spanish capital is up. He is heavily linked with a number of Premier League clubs.

Atletico are apparently willing to let the talented Portuguese forward leave on a loan transfer in January for a particular loan fee even if the club chooses not to sign the player permanently come the summer.

Felix’s time at Madrid has been mixed to say the least. He has not really adapted to Diego Simeone’s playstyle at all and often finds himself isolated and not really in sync with his teammates.

Speaking about the Portuguese forward’s future at the club as quoted by popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, here is what Simeone had to say about his chances in Madrid.

“We have good working relationship, he’s important to the team. If he transmits to us what we saw at the World Cup, João Felix will be very important — he has talent and the team needs his qualities”

Whilst Simeone did offer Felix hope, it was also a message to the player that he needs to be at the level he was for Portugal in the recently concluded World Cup. The Argentinian coach’s words must be taken with a pinch of salt.

It is now being claimed that there is an £8m fee for the loan covering six months until the end of the season plus wages to pay which would come to an extra £5.3m. If the Blues sign him without the option to buy, this would be a pretty huge investment on a temporary player.

Chelsea need to analyse and decide if they actually want a player on a temporary deal for such an investment, especially when we already have a player in a similar profile in the squad in Kai Havertz.

Felix’s future is very interesting. It might not be Chelsea where he ends up after all but he is too good a player to be faltering for too long and let’s hope we start seeing the quality that he possesses soon.
