According to journalist Simon Phillips (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are in the race to sign Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho.
The Blues have recently asked the representatives of the player about his current situation. They have been informed that the youngster is currently looking to re-sign with United. But, the future would remain uncertain until he puts pen to paper.
The 18-year-old has his contract expiring at Old Trafford in the coming summer (Transfermarkt). He has been one of the shining young stars in the last few months.
Garnacho arrived from the Atletico Madrid youth side in 2020 and has been one of the stars of the United youth sides since. This season, the Argentina youngster played eight times for the Red Devils’ senior team, scoring two goals and assisting twice.
He is a left winger by trade but can operate as an attacking midfielder or a right-winger. He possesses an electric pace, great dribbling skills and a good account of producing final products in and around the opposition box.
Chelsea spent big money on signing the best young talents in the preceding summer transfer window. It is part of Todd Boehly‘s ‘Vision 2030‘ where he wants to build a strong youth team that can do well at that level and also challenge for a place in the senior team.
Garnacho can be added to that list of players who can come in and be that difference-makers at all levels. His performances for United in the Premier League, even in cameos have been impressive. The match-winning goal against Fulham a week before the World Cup showcased all the good qualities he has as a player.
If he doesn’t sign a new contract with United, we could use it as an opportunity to add another player who is on the cusp of being a senior player.
