Chelsea are hoping to land young Benfica sensation Diego Moreira

According to the Mirror, Chelsea are hoping to land young Benfica sensation Diego Moreira in the summer window by using their connections with super agent Jorge Mendes.

The Blues are eager to sign the 18-year-old winger after missing out on Endrick from Palmeiras to Real Madrid last week. Co-owner Todd Boehly is continuously eager to bring the best young talents from Europe to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea spent a good chunk of money in the preceding summer window on signing a few top young talents, including Cesare Casadei from Inter Milan, Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa, Omari Hutchinson from Arsenal and more.

Chelsea are hoping to land Diego Moreira.

Moreira is a left-footed winger who can operate on either side of the attack. He is now part of the Portuguese Youth sides, currently representing the U-19s, having played for the Belgium U-15s in the past.

The 18-year-old’s current contract with Benfica expires in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt). So, he will be in the final 12 months of his contract with the Portuguese club in the coming summer.

In 49 appearances in all competitions for various Benfica sides, he has scored nine goals and assisted 11. One of those 49 appearances came in the Champions League qualifying game against FC Midtjylland this season.

With regard to attributes, Moreira possesses an abundance of pace to trouble opposition defenders, especially in wide areas. He is a good dribbler in tight spaces and in wide areas one-on-one against the opposition fullbacks.

The 18-year-old is likened to the Portugal legend Nani as the former Manchester United legend also had great pace and dribbling skills to terrorise defenders.

If Chelsea manages to complete this signature, it would be a massive coup for their youth team. Moreover, Moreira has the qualities and talent to challenge for a spot in the senior team sooner rather than later.
