Alexis Mac Allister backed to make a big move amidst Chelsea and Arsenal interest

As per his column on Daily Mail (h/t Evening Standard), Graeme Souness has backed Argentina and Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister for making a move to a bigger club with Chelsea and Arsenal interested.

Mac Allister was one of the shining lights in the World Cup for the South American side, who made a great turnaround after losing their first game against Saudi Arabia to making history and winning the tournament.

The good thing about the 24-year-old is that he has been one of the most consistent midfielders in the Premier League in the last 12 months. He made a great start to this season, with five goals in 14 league appearances from midfield.

Here’s what Souness wrote about Mac Allister making a move to a bigger club (with all due respect to Brighton) (h/t Evening Standard):

“He’s a top-four player and the big guys will be looking at him now and thinking, ‘We’ll have some of that’. He has proven he can play at the highest level and has already done it in the Premier League.

“There is very little risk attached to this boy. He can create, score and works his socks off – that type of player, they are hard to find. At 23, Brighton won’t be able to keep him for long and good luck trying to negotiate a new contract.”

Well, as of now, Mac Allister has a contract with the Seagulls up until the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt) but, will they be able to keep him if a club matches their asking price and offer the player a higher grade wage? Possibly not, especially after his World Cup exploits.

The 24-year-old former Boca Juniors player is a versatile midfield player who can operate in any position across the central regions of the field.

He can create chances, be a threat in the final third, keep the ball well, run all day for the team and is a very good defender that helps him break opposition attacks. He is as they say – a complete midfielder.

We would be in denial if we think Chelsea are sorted in the midfield department. In fact, it is the opposite of that. Add that to the fact that N’Golo Kante and Jorginho could leave for free following the expiry of their contracts in the summer.

More Chelsea News:

Mac Allister fits the bill in every aspect. He is young enough to offer longevity as well. So, even if we have to spend a premium to get him, it would be worth it. Graham Potter has worked with him before at Brighton of course. Does he want to work with the player again at a club of higher stakes? He should.
