Team News: The latest Chelsea injury update ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

A look at all the Chelsea injuries ahead of the Nottingham Forest clash

Chelsea finished off 2022 in the best possible way, beating Bournemouth 2-0 at home earlier this week. The Blues will now start the second half of the season on January 1 when they travel to face Nottingham Forest. We look at all the players who are currently sidelined for the west London club (h/t Football. London).

The only disappointing thing to happen during the win over the Cherries was that Reece James picked up an injury again. The 23-year-old returned to action after months on the sideline which saw him miss the World Cup with England earlier this month.

He seemed to have injured his knee again and it is now expected that the Cobham graduate will return back sometime in mid-February. Left-back Ben Chilwell is yet to recover from his injury and he too is expected to be back in February.

Chilwell has missed most parts of this season, something that has been the case ever since his move to west London from Leicester City back in 2020. Another defender to make the list is Wesley Fofana. The summer signing has missed out on most parts of the first half but could return back to action next month.

N’Golo Kante has only featured two times so far, with his last appearance coming up against Tottenham Hotspur back in August. The Frenchman has struggled to recover and missed out on the World Cup with France too. He is likely to come back in February.

Another midfielder in Ruben Loftus-Cheek is also on the sidelines but is expected to return back next month. The 26-year-old has impressed so far, especially with his versatility of being able to play in multiple positions.

Edouard Mendy missed the game against the Cherries and did not even make the bench. He has picked up a shoulder injury and will likely be back before the next game against Forest.

Striker Armando Broja will miss out the rest of the season after picking up an injury during a friendly game earlier this month. The young striker had been impressive so far, but will now return back to action during the 2023/24 campaign.
