Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand says he would be ‘amazed’ if Chelsea did not sign Leandro Trossard. The Blues are interested in the Brighton & Hove Albion winger.
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, as quoted by the Express, the Blues could accelerate the process to sign the 27-year-old after having closely monitored his progress in recent weeks.
Speaking on his ‘Vibe with Five’ YouTube channel (h/t Football. London), the former United defender would be amazed if Graham Potter failed to reunite with his former player.
“This guy is doing major bits right now. If Potter doesn’t go back there to try and sign him I’d be amazed. The best part of his game is being creative. He’s just scored a few goals lately, that’s not even his game.”
“I think the creative and the approach play in his game is unreal. The only thing I was asking for before was a bit more end product and he’s actually doing that now.”
The Belgian is currently one of the top in-form players in the Premier League. He has started in all 12 league games for the Seagulls so far scoring seven goals in the process.
It is hardly surprising to see the Blues show interest in him. The winger is in his prime age and is most likely in the form of his life. To be able to add that threat to our squad would help us win numerous crucial points.
Hakim Ziyech is completely out of form and does not look to be part of Potter’s plan for this season. Should the Moroccan leave, Trossard would likely make an ideal replacement for him. Moreover, Potter has managed Trossard at Brighton and would have a fair idea about the Belgian’s strengths and weaknesses.
The Belgian international sees his current contract expire next summer, although the club has the option to extend it by another year (transfermarkt). With the form he is in for the Seagulls will more than likely try to tie him down for a long time to discourage any potential suitors.
A fine player it will be wise for the west London club to step up their interest in the winger. A decent performance in the World Cup, should the player go, could increase his price tag and also potentially add more suitors for his signature. It remains to be seen if the Blues do make any offer in January.
