Todd Boehly very happy about confirming the appointment of Paul Winstanley at Chelsea

As per their statement (h/t Evening Standard), Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly and co-owner Behdad Eghbali are happy to complete the appointment of Paul Winstanley in the transfer department.

Winstanley arrives at the club with the position of Director of Global Talent and Transfers. So, he could be the one taking the lead on transfers, with the likes of Joe Shields, Laurence Stewart and Kyle Macauley also in the transfer think-tank, as envisaged by the owners.

Winstanley left the role of head of recruitment at Brighton and Hove Albion to sign for the Blues. Chelsea see him as a multi-talented recruiter, who has experience of working with manager Graham Potter when the duo was on the south coast.

Here’s what the joint statement from Boehly and Eghbali said regarding this appointment (h/t Evening Standard):

“Paul is going to be a great addition to Chelsea. He’s highly respected and is a key senior addition as we continue to build a world class sporting team with a huge depth of talent, ambition and commitment who will work closely with us to drive Chelsea forward. Paul shares our philosophy and will fit seamlessly into the organisation.”

Winstanley, along with the hiring of Shields, Stewart and Macauley can be considered as important steps taken by the Chelsea owners to reshape the club in the correct direction by bringing the right people for the respective roles.

Boehly had to step in as an interim sporting director in the summer transfer window. Although the Blues did sign loads of good players, they missed out on quite a few of them as well. Furthermore, it almost felt as if the club lacked experienced people in the recruitment department to drive the transfer activities in the right direction.

Now, with those appointments plus the possibility of Christopher Vivell joining in as a sporting director, Chelsea would have a backroom staff Potter can rely on to make the right signings to continue the development of the squad.

The first job would be to do good business in the January transfer window, with the team needing players in the midfield and forward line, especially the latter due to the lack of goals from the strikers.

More Chelsea News:

They are linked with a few number nines, namely Ivan Toney. It remains to be seen how this newly-formed transfer think-tank would work at Stamford Bridge.
