Todd Boehly keen on the idea to bring ex-Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo to Chelsea

According to Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports Golazo via Sun (h/t Daily Mail), Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is keen on the idea of bringing Cristiano Ronaldo to Stamford Bridge and the club is set to open talks with the Portuguese superstar following the termination of his Manchester United contract.

Following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan where he showed no respect to the United manager and their facilities, Ronaldo’s contract was terminated by mutual consent on Tuesday. He is now a free agent to sign for any club during or after the World Cup.

Chelsea were interested in signing the 37-year-old when he first shared his willingness to leave Old Trafford in the summer. Boehly was all in on the idea, but former manager Thomas Tuchel blocked the move as he did not want the player.

It is clear that the co-owner continues to have interest in making this deal happen, and would start talks with super agent Jorge Mendes.

Whether current manager Graham Potter wants Ronaldo or have as much of a final say in transfers as Tuchel did, remains to be seen. It is important for the manager to have a say in such things, given he is the person who has to make things work with them on the pitch.

Irrespective of the lack of football and form this season, we cannot underestimate the former Real Madrid star. He can still guarantee goals for any team, something Chelsea have lacked in abundance this season because of their underwhelming forward line.

Indeed, Ronaldo may not run that much off the ball to close down opposition defenders, but he is clinical when the chance arrives. Can Potter trade goals with a lack of work rate from one player in his team? Eventually, it is the goals that win you games.

More Chelsea News:

Right now, Chelsea could do with goals rather than looking at how the player will fit in the longer term. So, it would make sense to take a punt on Ronaldo for the second half of this season.
