“We’re excited”- Chelsea co-owners react to Trevoh Chalobah signing new contract

Club News: Chelsea co-owners react after defender Trevoh Chalobah signs new contract till 2028

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has signed a new contract that will run until 2028. The club also has the option to extend it by a further year.

Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, co-owners of the Blues have given their verdict following the defender’s extension as quoted in Football. London.

“We’re delighted that Trevoh will be extending his stay with Chelsea. He has been with us since childhood and has grown into an exceptional young player. He’s an important part of our men’s first team squad and we’re excited to see what’s next for Trevoh at Chelsea.”

A Cobham graduate, the 23-year-old has enjoyed multiple loan spells throughout his career spending time at Ipswich Town, Huddersfield and FC Lorient before becoming part of the Chelsea senior team in 2021.

Chalobah broke into the first team under Thomas Tuchel last season. The former England Under-21 defender surprisingly made 30 appearances for the senior team in all competitions last season.

While he started as a fringe player this season, an injury to Wesley Fofana early last month handed him a chance to showcase his talent. The 23-year-old has not disappointed and has been one of our best defenders along with Thiago Silva so far.

The centre-back is a really talented one who does not get as much credit as he should. He has always given his best on the pitch for us and the new contract shows how much he is valued at the club.

Just 23, the player has a long way to go and his new contract’s length would indicate that the club have future plans involving him. With Silva now 38, Chalobah could be his replacement in the team in the long run.
