Chelsea set to pounce on Cristiano Ronaldo if his Manchester United contract is terminated

According to the Mirror, Chelsea are set to pounce on the opportunity to sign controversial Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo if the Portuguese superstar’s contract is terminated by the Red Devils.

The Blues were heavily linked with a move for the 37-year-old superstar back in the summer but it never came to fruition. Ultimately, Ronaldo stayed on at Man United and his time at Old Trafford has not really gone on too smoothly until now.

Recently, the Portuguese superstar came out and gave an explosive interview in which he touched upon a number of topics and hit out at quite a few people including his manager Erik ten Hag for not treating him the way he must be treated.

Ronaldo has really struggled in front of goal this season, failing to be as clinical as he used to. The 37-year-old superstar is not used to not scoring goals and Ronaldo has been unable to influence games like he once used to in the prime of his career.

Many times this season, the 37-year-old has been forced to be consigned to a bench role. Erik ten Hag has preferred to use Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to the Portuguese superstar and it has meant that Ronaldo has often cut a frustrated figure.

Chelsea have had their own woes in front of goal this season. Despite signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the Blues have still not found the striker that they so desperately want and this has meant that Graham Potter’s side have not really set the stage alight.

Although the former Barcelona and Gabonese star did make a good start to life in West London, he has failed to kick on. Chelsea need someone who can be ruthless in front of goal and that would be needed for them to save the rest of the season.

Ronaldo could be the answer to Chelsea’s striking woes. Although on current form, the 37-year-old does not inspire much confidence, there is no doubt about the pedigree of the Man United star and it is being claimed that the Blues could move for him should the Red Devils terminate his contract.

Ronaldo to Chelsea does not seem as improbable after all. It remains to be seen if we see any progress on this front and how the Blues go about it.
