Chelsea manager Graham Potter admits that Arsenal deserved to win against his team

Speaking to the club’s in-house media after the game (h/t Football.London), Chelsea manager Graham Potter admits that Arsenal were the better team and deserved to win the London derby.

The Gunners won the game by a goal to nil thanks to a tap-in from Gabriel after an inswinging corner from Bukayo Saka. The away side deserved the victory because of the number of chances they created and also due to the fact that the Blues looked disjointed from the first whistle.

This win also means that Arsenal now have won on their trip to Stamford Bridge for the third season in a row. Seeing how Chelsea dominated this fixture in the past, losing that would be hard to swallow for the players and the fans.

Here’s what Potter said when asked to sum up the game (h/t Football.London):

“We played against a team in a really good moment, a confident team, so credit to them. The boys gave everything. We got into a few situations in the box but we missed that last little bit.

“Overall, Arsenal deserved to win. The goal is disappointing and over the course of the game, we don’t have too many complaints at the result.”

The defeat has further detached Chelsea from the top two teams in the league. They are now 11 and 13 points behind Manchester City and Arsenal respectively. They are fast losing the pace in the race for a top-four finish as well.

Although it seems all doom and gloom, there are 25 league games left for the Blues. Thankfully for them, 24 of them will be after the World Cup break.

A bad patch was probably on the cards knowing Potter did not have the pre-season with this squad, added to the fact that when he arrived at the club, the intensity of the schedule just got ramped up.

So, it would make sense for the fans to stay patient, allow the manager to reassess things during the break and hopefully come up with better plans for the next half of this season. Before that though, a Carabao Cup tie against City and a league game away at Newcastle United await.

More Chelsea News:

Potter may look to field the reserves for the cup tie, while looking to conjure up a side good enough to challenge a high-flying Newcastle side next Saturday.
