According to The Evening Standard, Chelsea manager Graham Potter has outlined his plans for the upcoming World Cup break.
The Englishman took over from Thomas Tuchel earlier in the 2022-23 season following the German’s dismissal. It has been a hectic but promising start for Potter at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea recovered from a poor start to the campaign.
Chelsea have qualified for the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League and have also worked their way back into contention for the top four spots. They now have three more games left before club football takes a six-week hiatus thanks to the World Cup.
Chelsea face Arsenal later today before travelling to The Etihad to face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup. The Blues then travel to St James Park to face top-four rivals Newcastle United before embarking upon their hiatus.
Potter too has plans and appears keen to not just catch a breather but also speed up his rebuild at Stamford Bridge. This balance could give him the mental space to plot a strong finish to the campaign.
“It is important to take that time to recharge and settle and go again to understand what we need to do, how we can help with January and moving forward. All those things are a combination of work and reflection.”
Potter enjoyed considerable success at Brighton & Hove Albion, making the Seagulls Premier League mainstays. Going from the stress of managing at The Amex to the Bridge is a whole new ball game. It is fair to say that the 47-year-old has earned himself a breather.
“I think I will try and go away to try to escape the beauty of November weather in the UK.”
With games coming thick and fast, the heavy schedule has taken its toll not just on the players but also on the backroom staff. Having Potter back available in the best possible mental condition would be ideal for our cause.
Managing a club like Chelsea is stressful indeed. Having to manage the egos in the squad and also meet expectations on the field is not for everyone. Potter certainly has been given an opportunity to make his name at a top club and appears keen to be in the best possible position to make an impact.
