Chelsea will get an offer to sign Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo but the move is complicated

As per a Twitter thread from Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports, Chelsea will be offered a chance to sign Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo once again but the move remains complicated.

After wanting to leave United in the summer and Chelsea being linked to signing him, former Blues manager Thomas Tuchel became a roadblock in the deal as he did not want the Portuguese superstar in his squad.

Now, after Ronaldo’s quotes were shared for everyone to read or listen to on Monday night, where he spoke about United, Erik ten Hag and other people around the club. It seems as if he wants out of the red side of Manchester as soon as possible.

Otherwise, disrespecting Ten Hag in particular is not a wise move at all if he does imagine future at Old Trafford.

While it is not impossible for Chelsea to pursue his signature again, chiefly due to the fact that Graham Potter may not have that level of autonomy as Tuchel did, the club has other targets in mind for that centre-forward position.

With the last two summer signings in that position not working as well as envisaged – Romelu Lukaku last season and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang so far this, the Blues would be looking to get better quality there.

The Christopher Nkunku deal is close while the links with Rafael Leao never go away. In the last few days, the club has been linked with Brentford striker Ivan Toney. Lille’s Jonathan David is in consideration too.

As much as how good Ronaldo has been in his career, he is not the same as he was during his Real Madrid and previous Manchester United days. He is 37 now and age has caught up with him, just like any player in top-level football.

So, it may not be wise from Chelsea’s viewpoint to focus on signing him rather than trying to look at other targets and sign them for the benefit of the team.

Moreover, his interview with Piers Morgan – or whatever there is to read from it at the moment – could be a red flag for some. Would Potter risk having such a ‘controversy’ at Chelsea by potentially signing Ronaldo? You’d want to think the answer is a resounding ‘no’.
