In what will come as a major blow to Arsenal, Chelsea are preparing to offer their star man Bukayo Saka a ‘better contract’ than what the Gooners are currently negotiating.
This is according to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs on The Football Terrace (h/t Football. London). It is expected that the 21-year-old will sign a £200,000-per-week contract with the north London club.
However, Todd Boehly is hoping to intercept such talks and is willing to offer the England international better terms than his side to lure him to Stamford Bridge.
Saka has emerged as one of the best young talents in Europe this past few seasons. A Hale End graduate, the 21-year-old is a regular player under Mikel Arteta.
The right-winger, who sees his current contract expire in 2024, has started all 10 Premier League games for his side so far. He has scored four and registered another four assists in the process.
One of the best youngsters around with huge potential in him, he would make a fine addition to the Blues squad. With Christian Pulisic in terrible form, a frontline of Saka, Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would make it one of the best in England.
However, the north London club considers the England international as ‘untouchable’. So this could make it very difficult to engineer a move. Also, rivals Liverpool and Manchester City are said to be keeping tabs on the 21-year-old.
It remains to be seen if the Blues can lure the 21-year-old. With rival clubs also interested, Arsenal are more than likely to step up their process of getting a new deal signed. Should the player reject the deal, he won’t be short of suitors for his service.
