Ruben Loftus-Cheek happy with Chelsea’s unbeaten form despite the late equaliser from Manchester United

Speaking to the media after the game (h/t Football.London), Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek remained happy with the team’s unbeaten form despite the late concession of an equaliser against Manchester United.

The Blues went into the second half stoppage time leading the game 1-0 through Jorginho’s penalty in the 87th minute. But, Casemiro came up with a looping header following a cross late in the stoppage time to rescue a point for United.

Irrespective of that, Chelsea remain eight unbeaten under Graham Potter, conceding only thrice in that period and collecting five wins.

Talking about a happy knack of not losing games and describing the match overall, here’s Loftus-Cheek (h/t Football.London):

“It was scrappy, both teams weren’t clean on the ball. It was just one of those games but I thought we had it [the win], we were defending well and then to be honest I don’t know how Casemiro’s got the power on that header to send it up and down. It feels like a defeat.

“We had to win the duels, both teams went toe to toe like that and sometimes it is what happens in these games. There’s two sides to the game and you have to do both if you want to be a good team.

“We want to match any team that comes here and it was unlucky for us to concede in the last minute. But we’re not losing, we’re winning and we are drawing which is a good sign.”

Loftus-Cheek’s own form has been great this season. The continued absence of N’Golo Kante and niggly issues to Mateo Kovacic has meant he is getting more chances in midfield, which he has grabbed with both hands so far.

The 26-year-old is finally starting to show some consistency in his game, which is a good sign for Chelsea and him if he is to make a late charge towards getting selected for the England World Cup squad. He has experience of playing in the World Cup as well, having done so in the 2018 edition.

Loftus-Cheek has been in good form this season.

For the Blues, although that draw took them to fifth position in the league following Newcastle United’s stunning win over Tottenham Hotspur, they are only behind the Magpies on goal difference having played a game less than them.

Not much time to dwell on that result though as another tough game is coming up. This time in the Champions League away at RB Salzburg on Tuesday.

It will be followed by a return for Graham Potter back to Brighton and Hove Albion next week for an important league encounter against his former club.
