Transfer News: Chelsea face Manchester United competition for Argentine forward

Chelsea and Manchester United are interested in a move for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, according to Football365 (h/t Manchester Evening News). The Red Devils are considering a move for the 25-year-old.

The Blues are also eyeing the Argentine. He is seen as a long-term option by Stamford Bridge side, with new summer 2022 signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang considered a short-term fix.

Chelsea signed the Gabonese alongside Raheem Sterling in the recent transfer window. However, the two have been underwhelming under Graham Potter.

The number nine curse seems to be around still. Romelu Lukakau signed for the Blues last year from Inter. However, the Belgian was unable to make a mark back in London and was shipped off to Milan once again in the summer of 2022.

We Signed Aubameyang on deadline day from Barcelona. The 33-year-old had a fruitful short spell in Catalunya after ending things on a sour note at Arsenal.

Unfortunately, the Gabonese international has failed to live up to expectations in West London. In 10 appearances in all competitions, the forward has found the back of the net just three times.

After a fast start to his Chelsea career, Sterling has also struggled for form. While the 27-year-old is getting into good positions, his finishing has left a lot to be desired.

Thus, with goalscoring apparently still an issue for Chelsea, getting in a quality striker is evidently essential. Martinez has been one of the best in Italy since his move from Racing Club in Argentina to Inter.

The last decent number nine we had was Diego Costa. Unfortunately, Chelsea have struggled to find a potent striker since then. Whether Martinez is the one Chelsea decide to bank on to end the curse remains to be seen.
